Sustainability & Innovation Policy
ELNAV.AI d.o.o.
Last updated: 06.03.2025.
At ELNAV.AI, sustainability is integral to our identity as a deep-tech company shaping the future of maritime safety. We believe that innovation must serve not only operational excellence but also environmental protection, crew wellbeing, and long-term social value.
This policy outlines our commitments to environmental sustainability, responsible innovation, and collaborative, forward-thinking development practices.
1. Environmental Stewardship
We design our technologies to minimize environmental footprint throughout their lifecycle—whether deployed at sea or during land-based development.
Key principles:
- Low-impact systems: Our products, including sensor platforms and AI-based monitoring systems (e.g. Aware Mate and Helm Order Monitor), are designed to operate non-invasively in marine environments.
- No disruption to marine life: We avoid sonar or propulsion systems that risk harming marine ecosystems. Passive sensing and vision-based solutions are preferred.
- Energy efficiency: We strive for ultra-low-power, autonomous operations (e.g. underwater gliders instead of crewed patrols).
- Electronic waste reduction: We reuse prototyping hardware and follow WEEE-compliant disposal practices.
We aim to align with the EU Green Deal and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly:
- SDG 13: Climate Action
- SDG 14: Life Below Water
- SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
2. Responsible Innovation
We innovate with intention: our systems are designed to prevent accidents, reduce human error, and save lives.
Our innovation values:
- Safety-first: All AI systems are tested in simulation and evaluated with real-world professionals before deployment.
- Human-centered: We prioritize technologies that enhance—not replace—human decision-making.
- Modular & scalable: Our platforms are designed for integration and upgradeability, reducing waste and extending their useful life.
- Transparent R&D: We publish non-sensitive results and participate in open knowledge-sharing forums whenever feasible.
3. Open Collaboration
ELNAV.AI values interdisciplinary partnerships that promote shared learning, rapid prototyping, and trust.
We actively engage with:
- Maritime professionals and pilots (to ensure operational relevance)
- Academic researchers (for validation and ethics)
- EU-funded consortia (e.g. EIT, Horizon Europe)
- Engineering and sensor technology providers (for sustainable hardware)
We welcome new partners and contributors who share our mission of safe, ethical, and green digital transformation of the maritime sector.
4. Internal Practices
We apply our values inside the company as well:
- Digital-first, paper-light operations
- Remote/hybrid work to reduce commuting emissions
- Preference for sustainable suppliers and EU-based production
- Continuous training on sustainability and ethics for our team
5. Continuous Improvement
This policy is a living document. We review it annually in light of:
- Technological advances
- EU environmental legislation
- Feedback from partners, clients, and end-users
Our goal is to ensure that ELNAV.AI not only delivers cutting-edge innovation—but does so responsibly, transparently, and with a long-term impact in mind.
